Itinerary

Sadarghat

Our first destination is Sadarghat. It is one of the busiest and most iconic places in Dhaka, serving as a gateway to the city’s river transportation system. Hundreds of boats and ferries arrive and depart daily, carrying passengers, goods, and livestock.

Ahsan Manzil (Pink Palace)

Then we will visit Ahsan Manjil which was the Nabab palace of Dhaka. Visitors to Ahsan Manzil can explore its stunning architecture, beautiful gardens, and learn about the history of Dhaka and Bangladesh.

Armenian Church

The Armenian Church in Dhaka, also known as the Armenian Church of the Holy Resurrection, is a historic church located in the old part of the city. It stands as a testament to the Armenian community’s presence and contributions to Dhaka’s history.

Star Mosque

The Star Mosque welcomes visitors who wish to explore its architectural beauty and learn about its cultural significance. However, it is essential to respect the religious nature of the site when visiting, dressing modestly, and observing appropriate behavior.

Dhakeshwari Temple

It is considered one of the most important and revered temples in Bangladesh. Visiting the Dhakeshwari Temple offers an opportunity to witness the religious devotion, architectural splendor, and cultural richness of Bangladesh.

Lalbagh Fort

This is one of our top attractions in this tour. Visiting Lalbagh Fort offers a glimpse into the history, architecture, and cultural heritage of Dhaka. It provides a serene and picturesque escape from the bustling city and serves as a reminder of Bangladesh’s Mughal past.

University of Dhaka

It is one of the oldest and largest universities in the country and has played a significant role in the educational and cultural development of Bangladesh. We will visit this university to experience and learn the history and culture of Bangladesh.

I had a 3 day customized tour with Modhu Tours last week and my guide was Amin. First day we did the Old Dhaka tour by rickshaw and by boat. It was a surreal experience for me and I enjoyed every seconds of it. During this tour Amin was with me all the time, he was a guide, a negotiator, a translator, a bodyguard (wasn’t needed :)) and the most important, a friend. He is very knowledgeable about the history of Bangladesh, he is funny and his English is superb. He made sure that I only had quality local food during our trip. Without him I couldn’t have done such a great trip. Thank you Modhu Tours, thank you Amin.

Great value for money with Imran on this day tour, which was absolutely brilliant. So many
wonderful places to visit within Old Dhaka, and Imran went out of his way to accommodate
my desire for coffee and hunting down specific souvenirs, as well!

I had one day to spare in Dhaka after a busy week. I didn’t want to waste this day and so looked to find a trip that would show me the highlights in a straightforward way. I also wanted to do this on my own and not in a group.

Modhu tours did not disappoint. The company got in contact two days before in order to confirm my hotel and the pick up time and my guide, Firoz, arrived at the hotel early.

We left at 8 am on a Friday and drove down to the port area. We wondered a little around the ports and looked at one of the big ships, before taking a water taxi across the river and back. We then continued the rest of the tour mainly by bicycle rickshaw ,

I would definitely recommend travelling by rickshaw if you can, but it doesn’t feel 100% safe!

We visited, I think, all the main highlights, including the Armenian church, the Hindu temple, Lalbagh Fort, the Star Mosque, the old city, and the University of Dhaka. In the middle of this was lunch in a clean restaurant near Lalbagh Fort.

I had also asked to visit the Liberation War Museum, which was incorporated in my tour with no fuss.

I didn’t realise at the time, but it was a definite advantage to do this tour on a Friday. The traffic in Dhaka is unbelievably bad as the first day of the weekend it was much quiter and so we weren’t held up as we went from place to place.

We finished at about 2.30pm back at the hotel. I imagine that during the week with lots of traffic, this itinerary would’ve taken quite a time longer. Also, I didn’t spend ages at any of the sites.

My guide, Firoz, was perfect. His English was impeccable and his knowledge of Bangladesh and Dakar, comprehensive. He was very friendly and made the trip very easy for me. He kept asking if I was okay, given that it was extremely hot and humid.

I would thoroughly recommend this as a great introduction to Dhaka city .

It was great – Firoz was an excellent guide, he did a fantastic job. The tour was excellent, largely because of Firoz – he made it amazing.

Perfect tour for our one day in the city. Tour guide Amin was informative, friendly, and accommodated our tweaks to the itinerary, such as going to see the Parliament building. Saw all that we wanted to see and do, but for some reason he thought we were too old for rickshaw ride (we are 62). His contacts allowed us to get into some places in the old fort with the caretaker that others were not allowed to see. Note there is a lot of traffic in Dhaka so moving from place to place takes much more time than you think!
